Filing for Income Tax Returns Is Extended
Pursuant to Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 030-2026, the Bureau of Internal Revenue has extended the deadline for the filing of the 2025 Annual Income Tax Returns (AITR), payment of the corresponding taxes due, and submission of required attachments from 15 April 2026 to 15 May 2026, without the imposition of surcharge, interest, or compromise penalties, provided compliance is made within the extended period.
The extension applies to all taxpayers required to file AITR for taxable year 2025, including corporations, partnerships, and individuals, and covers the filing of returns, payment of income tax liabilities, and submission of mandatory attachments such as Audited Financial Statements (AFS), Statement of Management Responsibility (SMR), and other required schedules.
Notwithstanding the availability of the extension, taxpayers who can comply are encouraged to file on or before 15 April 2026. Conversely, taxpayers who may require additional time to finalize reconciliations or substantiate positions may avail themselves of the extended deadline to ensure that submissions are accurate, complete, and fully supportable. The extension pertains strictly to the deadline and does not modify any substantive tax rules. Filing and payment may be made through the BIR’s electronic platforms or via Authorized Agent Banks.
Requirement for Other Regulatory Agencies
It must be emphasized that the extension does not extend deadlines imposed by other regulatory agencies, which, as of this writing, have not issued corresponding extensions. In particular, pursuant to SEC Memorandum Circular No. 9, s. 2026, the Securities and Exchange Commission requires the filing of AFS on or before 29 May 2026. Similarly, filings with other regulators—such as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, National Electrification Administration, Cooperative Development Authority, and Insurance Commission—remain subject to their existing deadlines (e.g., NEA – 15 April 2026; BSP – 30 April 2026; SEC – 29 May 2026). Accordingly, taxpayers with reportorial obligations to these agencies are advised to file on time in accordance with each regulator’s applicable deadlines.
Taxpayers are advised to refer to RMC No. 030-2026 for complete guidance.
